Homecoming! The word inspires nostalgic thought for many of us, particularly when you give it the context of Fall and football. The tradition actually has roots pre-dating most of us now. It’s evolved from a simple celebration of the first home football game of the season to an event often filled with ceremony, ritual, dinners, dances and parties. A wonderful occasion that brings alumni, staff, students, and friends back to a place that was deemed “home” for at least a significant period in their lives. The football game itself at times can actually feel secondary to all of the joyous activities associated with the event.
Well the good news for the Thief River Falls Community is that the coming weekend of September 18th and 19th will bring a Homecoming celebration that’s a scale beyond what anyone has seen around here for some time! Starting with the Thief River Falls High School Homecoming, parade, pep rally, football game and dance on Friday the 18th, we are very proud and pleased to follow with the Northland Community & Technical College Homecoming and Anniversary Celebration on Saturday the 19th! Activities start with our anniversary celebration program at 10:00 AM in the Gunderson Commons where breakfast will be provided to any and all who attend, followed by the Pioneers Volleyball vs. Rainy River at 11:00 AM, the Homecoming Football game vs. MN West Community College at noon, then an Anniversary Mixer at Gunderson Commons at 7:00 PM for all alumni and friends of the college. The day finally ends with a NCTC Foundation fundraiser Raffle drawing at 8:00PM where several awesome prizes will be awarded. Tickets and more detailed information regarding the NCTC events can be found on the college website northlandcollege.edu or you can call Lars Dyrud at (218) 683-8616.
Our hope is that you and your family find your way to attend as many of these events that you can fit into your calendar. Homecoming is a great tradition that we are all fortunate enough to carry forward and it would be a missed opportunity to not share in the fun. I look forward to seeing you there!
