I hope everyone is enjoying this beautiful Fall weather along with using this precious time to prepare for the inevitable winter, which they say may be more challenging than what I experienced in Michigan. As long as we are talking about preparing for the future (awkward but effective segway), I’m going to share a few thoughts about legacy planning and “paying it forward”. Many have already heard me speak about the wonderful welcome I have had into this college and this community, as well as my delight in hearing from virtually everyone I meet how much Northland Community & Technical College has had a positive impact on their life. Knowing that these anecdotal accounts are not only true, but often delivered with genuine appreciation. I would like to propose a consideration for any and all whose life has benefitted, or is likely to benefit from the existence of NCTC.
The NCTC foundation exists but for one purpose and that is to provide scholarships for students attending NCTC. These scholarships can be defined by the donor to be awarded to students based on academic achievement, pursuit of a specific program of study, residency, and/or their financial need. Scholarship dollars often make the difference as to whether or not someone can attend college and pursue their dream. A scholarship can make a dramatic difference in someone’s life as it may have for you. By giving to the NCTC Foundation, you are changing someone’s life!
Any and all gifts are appreciated, but I would especially like for folks to consider planned giving as an option. It’s tragic that there are so many people each year that pass unexpectedly and have not taken the time to make arrangements for their estate, leaving nearly half of everything they have worked for to go to the government. With a simple will, you can appropriately provide for your loved ones as well as support important causes like the NCTC Foundation, while minimizing the share that ends up with the IRS. So if this is of interest to you, please contact someone from the NCTC Foundation to find out more. Paying it forward is a legacy we should all consider as providing a college education for someone in need is the ultimate hand up, not a hand out!
